Coffee has gotten a bad rap for several years because of its high caffeine content. However, new research has shown that the benefits of coffee outweigh the risks for most people. Below are three healthy reasons that women should indulge in their coffee cravings:
Reduced risk of type 2 diabetes
There are over 25.8 million people in the United States living with diabetes. Approximately 90 percent of diabetics have type 2 diabetes. There was a study done in 2005 that involved over 193,000 participants. The results of the study were that people who drank at least six cups of coffee most days out of the week cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 35 percent. Participants who drank four to six cups of coffee per day reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 28 percent.
Reduced risk of skin cancer
The number of women being diagnosed with skin cancer is on the rise. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. Studies have shown that women who drink three or more cups of coffee per day reduce their risk of developing basal cell carcinoma by up to 20 percent. Researchers believe that the antioxidants in coffee help prevent skin cancer from forming.
Reduced risk of depression
Women who drink four or more cups of coffee per day can reduce their risk of developing depression by up to 20 percent. Coffee can help boost a woman’s mood, which makes her less likely to experience depression.
Coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, skin cancer and depression. That is why it is perfectly okay for women to enjoy a cup of coffee.
